Self-arranged arrival at our cozy hotel in La Alberca starting at 4:00 PM to settle in. In the mid-afternoon, we will hold a brief tour presentation to get to know each other and share expectations, followed by a pleasant stroll through the surroundings to connect with the mountain landscape. We will conclude the day with an included welcome dinner at a local restaurant to savor the first flavors of the region.
After breakfast, we descend into the mystical Batuecas Valley. The morning will be dedicated to searching for Mediterranean flora, such as Linaria nivea, and iconic butterflies like the Two-tailed Pasha. We will continue to the banks of the Alagón River to spot birds such as the Black Stork, Egyptian Vulture, and the Iberian Magpie. After an included lunch in Sotoserrano, we will explore a humid forest in search of wild orchids and shade-loving butterflies. Return to the hotel; dinner at your leisure (not included).
Breakfast and departure southeast to explore the Sierra de Béjar. We will walk among ash trees and scrubland, observing European Bee-eaters, Cinereous Vultures, and butterflies such as the Spanish Ash Hairstreak (Laeosopis roboris). After an included lunch in Santibáñez de la Sierra, we move to Miranda del Castañar. There, we will walk among vineyards and strawberry trees, looking for specific species like the Nettle-tree Butterfly and the Southern Gatekeeper. Return to the hotel; free evening to enjoy the village. Dinner not included.
After breakfast, we head to the Sierra de Quilama to ascend toward Pico Cervero. In this high-mountain environment, we will look for the Common Rock Thrush and various butterfly species like the Lesser Spotted Fritillary (Melitaea trivia). Flora will take center stage with specimens of Orchis mascula. After an included lunch in San Martín del Castañar, we will visit the historic center and a medieval winery to learn about local winemaking traditions. We will close the experience with an included farewell dinner.
We will enjoy one last breakfast at the hotel before checking out. End of our services and return to points of origin, with backpacks full of sightings and new naturalist friendships.
